Select our Toray brand polymer optical fibers:

For your lighting and data transmission projects, choose the Toray brand polymer optical fibers. Discover our range of polymer optical fibers, optical fiber cords, light guides.

Each polymer optical fiber is made up of a PMMA core and a fluoropolymer cladding. PMMA is the most transparent polymer. The close but different refractive indices allow the transmission of light in multimode mode within the fiber. For more information, see our article on the overview of polymer optical fibers.

Toray offers different core diameters from 0.25mm to 3mm for polymer optical fibers and from 0.5mm à 2mm for optical fiber cords but also several fiber quality levels which can classified according to the fiber attenuation, the class of temperature supported, digital aperture.

Depending on the use of the fiber, a fiber diameter, a given attenuation, a temperature and a numerical aperture will be selected. A standard polymer optical fiber at Toray has an attenuation of 0.15dB per meter, supports a temperature of 70 ° C and has a digital aperture of 0.5.

Plastic optical fibers also have the distinction of being insensitive to X-rays; they can therefore be exposed in environments with high radioactive stresses. For more information, see our article on Insensitivity to X-rays of polymer optical fibers.
